The Ovarian Lottery.

Day 4. Daily Wisdom 9/26/2024

I am 4 days into living in Chicago, and I am starting to form a routine.

Wake up around 8-8:30, respond to some emails, tweet a few things, write this blog. Take a couple morning meetings. Walk to coffee shop. Get most important stuff done. Come back home, work a bit more. Make some dinner …

It’ll be interesting to see how that evolves over the next few months.

These past few days I’ve been thinking a lot about content.

Realizing that cultivating an online presence is probably one of the most important things a young entrepreneur can do for themselves.

And the only way to do it is by hitting it, hard, every day. I’ve learned quite a bit about online growth recently:

  • techniques for writing good hooks on Tweets1 and videos2

  • SEO growth tools3 , and tactics4

  • How to run Meta ads for retargeting

  • How to design a landing page that converts5

All are part of the broader art of modern persuasion. Which is essentially just the art of convincing people to opt-in to your content (vs passively scrolling past it)

For the longest time starting a business I thought the product was the most important thing.

But in reality DISTRIBUTION IS KING.

If a tree falls and no one hears it there is no sound, if you build a product but no one knows about it there is no money.

Ultimately it’s all about eyeballs. Butts in seats.

And cultivate that sustainably (and cost-effectively) you essentially NEED to grow an organic online following through high-quality content. It’s a meritocracy.

In some ways it can be expedited and arbitraged, but it really can’t be done over night.

The good news is that I am young. I am doing this early. I have plenty of time.

Repeat after me.

I have plenty of time. I have plenty of time. I have plenty of time.

I am 26, have a great family and wife and support system, have taken the leap to build my own business, have raised money, have some semblance of product market fit, and and building the means to scale it sustainably. I am a white guy born into an upper-middle class family in the middle of the US and speak english — that’s called winning the Ovarian Lottery6
