Babbl Labs - Apr 2025 Update

DW #93 🟡📈

Hello friends, family, stakeholders, investors, enemies, and future historians1

At Babbl Labs, our goal is to structure the world's video knowledge into actionable intelligence. We're building an institutional-grade AI video intelligence engine that transforms unstructured long-form video content from platforms like YouTube into real-time, monetizable data used by large funds and corporations. Here’s what we’ve been up to this past month:

Highlights

April has been a breakthrough month for Babbl Labs, with significant momentum across all fronts:

  1. We've closed $300K in funding led by Groove Capital, exceeding our original $250K target! This capital infusion validates our business model and positions us to capitalize on our first-mover advantage in the video intelligence space.

  2. We're weeks away from delivering our MVP YouTube dataset to our first 3 trial-stage hedge fund clients -- a huge milestone as we transition from product development to revenue generation.

  3. We've secured 3 additional hedge funds in contracting stages this month, awaiting final compliance review before moving forward with trials. Our pipeline continues to grow through inbound & word-of-mouth, next month we’ll begin outbound sales with conferences and events (more on this below)

KPIs

In April our metrics continued accelerating and validating market demand:

  • We're now in contracting stages with 10 total funds (+67% from March), with 4 in trial stages representing $400K in potential annual revenue.

  • With our additional funding, we've extended our runway by 12+ months into Q2 2026, giving us vital time to execute our vision for hedge funds and expand into additional verticals

  • We've decreased our monthly burn rate by 20% by cutting unnecessary expenses and hiring a CPA. By the end of this month, we expect to be 'post-product' and on path to becoming 'post-revenue' by Q3 -- I expect burn will increase accordingly.

Fundraising Updates

Our $250K fundraising round has been a resounding success, closing at $300K with investment from 5 investors, led by Groove Capital. We couldn't be more motivated by this vote of confidence in our vision.

  • Having Groove Capital on board as a partner feels like a natural fit – we've known Reed and team for quite some time, and their support has only increased our determination to build something extraordinary.

  • This is the final opportunity to invest at our current terms. We've left room for an additional $50K in investment, bringing the total to $350K. Here's a link to our current pitch deck2 – if you're interested in joining us on this journey to unlock the future of market intelligence, let us know.

  • As our revenue pipeline matures through H2 2025, we're preparing for a larger institutional round in early 2026 ($2M+) at a higher valuation, which will unlock revenue expansion into additional verticals, and provide our early investors with a clear path to liquidity and upside.

What's Next

Our roadmap for the remainder of 2025 is focused on three important milestones:

  1. Q2-Q3: Revenue Generation – Converting our first hedge fund clients, expanding our dataset coverage, and establishing category leadership in long-form video intelligence for finance. Additional features on our YouTube dataset roadmap include: brand & product detection, advertiser insights, foreign languages, coverage for non-US stocks, and more

  2. Q3: Enterprise Intelligence Expansion – Building influencer analytics reporting tools, a premium analytics product for major YouTube creators and brands that leverages our AI-driven sentiment analysis, entity detection, and cross-channel mention tracking. We're exploring this massive market opportunity through our LOIs with media intelligence partners already.

  3. Q4: Scaling Infrastructure – Building the foundations for our next phase of growth and preparing for our institutional funding round.

We're also hitting the conference circuit in force this quarter – our first major outbound sales push since closing our funding:

  • Neudata NYC Data Summit (New York, May 15-16): The leading event for connecting with a variety of funds and corporates in the alternative data space.

  • DataTech 2025 (Minnesota, May 16): The Midwest’s top data science and analytics conference, offering exposure to hundreds of enterprise clients and industry experts.

  • BattleFin Discovery Day (New York, June 10-11): The premier matchmaking forum for alternative data providers and major hedge funds to connect and collaborate

These high-visibility events are precisely where deals happen in our industry, and we're excited to share how our technology is transforming the alternative data landscape.

Asks

We have one primary ask this month: we're currently seeking a technical advisor to help guide our infrastructure and data pipeline as we scale to meet demand from our initial hedge fund clients. Ideally, someone who:

  • Has incredible experience reliably scaling data processing infrastructure

  • Can help us optimize our large-scale GPU deployment on-premise and in AWS/Azure

  • Understands data center colocation operations

  • Wants to spend some time working in the business (likes startups)

  • Can advise on structuring code, data, and workflows to help us onboard future engineers

If this is you or someone you know, we'd love to discuss.

Thank You

A heartfelt thank you to those who have made our recent momentum possible: Sean Austin, Doug Hopkins, Mick Hedberg, Spencer Thomas, Joe Gorka, Joel Day, Daniel Dennis, Nick Tietz, Parker Schlank, James Young, Reed Robinson, Corbin Fonville, Clare Richards, John & Andrew Dahlberg, Don Griffin, Stephen Regenold, and many more.
